Popular for local kids and adults alike, this lovely book written and illustrated by two Los Alamos moms is the only goodnight-style book we’ve seen that features saying goodnight to a beloved local bar (the Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op). Also featured are Bandelier National Monument, the Natural Arch off Old Mitchell trail, and Los Alamos National Laboratory. The digital charcoal and watercolors are beautiful interpretations of local landmarks, and the text is rhythmic and dreamy:

The sun has moved from east to west,
over the Jemez it now rests.
The brilliant display of yellow and red
lets us know it’s time for bed.

About the Authors

When Whitney Spivey wanted to read a children’s book about Los Alamos to her twin daughters, she couldn’t find one, So, she wrote one herself. With Los Alamos born-and-raised illustrator Brenda Fleming, they’ve created a new local classic.
